Chandigarh, July 25, 2025: Indian National Theatre in collaboration with the Durga Das foundation will present ‘Varsha Ritu Sangeet Sandhya 2025’ on August 2 in the auditorium of Strawberry Fields High School, located in Sector 26 Chandigarh.

The purpose of this event is to joyously celebrate the arrival of the monsoon season through melodious raagaas pertaining to the rains , and, as every year, to pay a heartfelt tribute on the birth anniversary of Late Navjeevan Khosla, patron of Indian National Theatre.

On this occasion, Anil Nehru, President of the Indian National Theatre, and Vinita Gupta, Honorary Secretary, shared that the classical music concert would begin at 6:30 PM and the artiste for the evening would be Vidushi Kalapini Komkali .

Speaking about Vidushi Kalapini Komkali, Vinita Gupta said that Kalapini is a vocalist endowed with a melodious, and richly textured voice and is widely recognized as one of India’s finest vocalists. She is the daughter and disciple of the legendary musician Pandit Kumar Gandharva.

She also received training from her illustrious mother, Vidushi Vasundhara Komkali.
Kalapini not only learned the techniques and grammar of music but also inherited a deep capacity for creativity and contemplation.

Vinita Gupta further stated that Kalapini’s musical lineage is most evident in the emphasis on the rendering of the band hush (composition) and its expression and meaning. She has a rich repertoire of ragas and compositions, further enriched by her presentation of traditional folk songs of the Malwa region, which reflect the local culture and heritage. The Sagun and Nirgun bhajans (devotional songs) she presents—are compositions of various saint-poets—which bring an ascetic and spiritual flavor to her music.
She also mentioned that Kalapini’s commercial studio recordings include albums such as ‘Aarambha’ and ‘Inheritance’ (released by HMV), and ‘Dharohar’ (released by Times Music). Her live concert recording ‘Swar-Manjari’ was released by Virgin Records. Kalapini has also contributed to the soundtracks of the films ‘Paheli’ and ‘Devi Ahilya’.
She is a recipient of the Sangeet Natak academy award which she received in  2023.
